Automated Hop Stringer Project Seeks Input

January 11, 2019

2nd Sight BioScience is an Ag Engineering company that recently received a grant from the Washington Hop Commission to develop an automated hop stringer.  The company is currently working on an additional grant from the WSDA Specialty Crop Block Grant program.

They are seeking input from as many hop growers as possible before they start the engineering for the system, which they hope will meet the needs of nearly every grower in the PNW. In order to do that, input is needed from as many growers as possible.

If you would like to provide input as to the specifications that this automated hop stringer needs to meet, please contact [email protected] or at 509-389-2235.  Here is just a partial list of what they need to know prior to the engineering and design: row spacing, trellis height, support cable diameter, trellis cable diameter, how are the support and trellis cables connected, distance between trellis cables, pole to pole row length, current cost to string an acre, etc.  Kevin will also host a discussion session at the American Hop Convention, on Wednesday 1/23 at 2:30 pm in the Portola Hotel’s Ironwood I, Monterey, CA.  Stop by to learn about the project and join the discussion!
