HGA Seeking Volunteers and Two Proprietary Hops for CBC 2019

December 10, 2018

The Craft Brewers Conference and trade show, BrewExpo America®, is taking place April 8-11, 2019 in Denver Colorado. This is a key activity for Hop Growers of America’s TEC (Trade Education Communication) program, and the featured hop lineup for 2019 will include two proprietary varieties, along with public varieties and experimental selections.  We are seeking nominations for the proprietary varieties by January 10, 2019.

The HGA Board of Directors is seeking U.S. hop growers who are willing to volunteer and work in the booth alongside HGA staff.  If you are interested in serving as a delegate, please email Jessica Lucas ([email protected]) to submit your name and the information so we have some information to convey to the Board prior to voting.  Deadline for applying is January 10, 2019.

Proprietary Hops

Interested proprietors should email Jessica Lucas ([email protected]) with the varieties they would like to submit for consideration for the HGA booth. Each variety will need to be supplied in the following levels: 100 pounds of pellets will be needed for samples to distribute, and four brewer cuts are required for sensory analysis in the booth.  CBC 2019 will be held in Denver, CO on April 8 – 11. Further details and logistics will be discussed with the owners of the two selected hops. Final selection will be determined by the HGA Board of Directors.

Volunteer

Before volunteering, please keep the following in mind:

  • HGA will use USDA grant funding to pay for travel expenses, lodging, and meals for members of the delegation. Guests of delegates such as spouses are welcome, but limited to one per delegate.
  • Expenses of guests are not eligible for reimbursement.
  • Due to the high cost of CBC exhibitor badges, we are unable to cover the costs of guest volunteers outside of the official delegation.
  • Spouses/guests interested in attending are also encouraged to apply as a delegate if they are interested in serving as a full-time volunteer and are comfortable speaking about U.S. Hop Industry to visitors.
  • Couples who are submitted together will be considered separately, but it will be noted in the process that both are applying. Either one or both could be selected.

Please submit the following to Jessica Lucas ([email protected]) if you are interested in becoming a delegate:

  • Name and Position
  • Farm/Company Name and Address
  • Contact information (phone, email)
  • Past HGA trade show experience, if any
  • Short statement on hop growing and brewing experience / knowledge
  • Short statement on any direct marketing experience you may have through your farm
