International Order of the Hop Nominations Requested

December 10, 2018

The Hop Growers of America Board is seeking input from the US hop industry for nominees for the International Order of the Hop.  IHGC will confer the honor to recipients from the US at the International Hop Congress in Slovenia during July 29-August 2, 2019. Nominations must be submitted by January 4, 2019.

Instituted by John the Fearless, who was born in 1371 at Dijon, the son of Philip the Bold, Duke of Burgundy and King of Brabant, the Order of the Hop was intended as a mark of distinction and honor for those who contributed to the development and prosperity of the “noble” plant, which is so important for beer production. The Order of John the Fearless continues to be conferred in the 21st Century on the descendants of those who received the honor in 14th Century: hop growers and brewers, university officials, employees, and drinkers of good beer, who have merited it by their services in the field of hop cultivation. The award of the Order of the Hop is designed to lead to further achievements and still greater advances hop culture.

Nominations may be submitted to the Hop Growers of America Board for consideration by January 4, 2019.  Please include a summary of the contributions the individual has made to the advancement of the US hop industry.  The HGA Board will select the final nominees and announce those honorees during the upcoming American Hop Convention in Monterey, CA on January 25.  Submit nominations to Ann George ([email protected]).
